Each math class will begin the period with a warm-up activity related to the standard being taught that day. These warm-ups will be done in our math journal. This journal needs to be brought to school every day.
Following the warm-up, the Engage NY lesson will begin. Most lessons begin with a Sprint, which is a timed activity to develop math fluency. Next, a short review of the previous day's lesson is done on whiteboards. The standards for the lesson of that day are taught next, whole class, with lots of practice on whiteboards. The Problem Set will be done and corrected together in class following the practice. These will be kept in their binder as a reference for help with homework. Homework will be assigned and due the following day. Some lessons may take more than one day, so sometimes you might not see homework every night.
At the completion of each lesson, an Exit Ticket will be given to assess student understanding. These will be graded and returned to the student.
There are two assessments given for each Module. The Mid Module Assessment is given halfway through the Module. When the module is completed, the End of Module Assessment is given. Students are allowed to use everything in their binder, and their journal to help them on the assessments.
